While in the woods, I am constantly reminded that I am not alone and that homes look very different to ours. In some unusual places as well...like this old oak with an interesting root structure.
This is a home to a badger or a fox or some other critter which took it over and decorated it to their own liking.
To be honest, I was hoping that nothing would come out of there and start chasing me. I already had a plan which tree I'd climb if that had become a case.

Deep in the hills of Vukomericke Gorice that are recovering from centuries of deforestation and farming is where this painting came to be.
Scenes like this are becoming frequent throughout the Croatian wilderness as beacons of hope.
Hope for restoration of the natural balance.
This has a deep meaning for me both as a painter trying to capture this beauty and as a person living in a varied, healthier environment.

This painting started out as a plein air piece during the cold winter months in the Croatian woods.
And it is sort of a "pilot project" of adding creatures into a scene that was captured outdoors.
I like paleo art elements, so I decided to add them here - maybe I was just looking for an excuse to paint them.
The two species seen here are the Psittacosaurus that is a master at hiding and the Yutyrannus that was its common predator at the time.

This is my first outdoor oil painting.
The beauty of the process of how it came to be is what influenced the decision that this is what I truly wish to do and make more of.
I was enchanted by the winter forest and the secret that was hidden inside. Wild apples scattered everywhere on the ground. To this day I still wonder why wild animals haven't eaten them. There were so many and it was end of December when food is scarce.
